Dhanushkodi is a hauntingly beautiful coastal town located at the southeastern tip of Pamban Island in Tamil Nadu, near Rameswaram. Once a thriving pilgrimage and trade center, the town was completely destroyed by the catastrophic cyclone of 1964. Today, Dhanushkodi is known as a “ghost town”, with remnants of churches, railway stations, and homes standing as silent witnesses to its tragic past.
Despite its desolate state, Dhanushkodi attracts travelers and pilgrims alike, drawn by its raw beauty, spiritual significance, and proximity to Ram Setu (Adam’s Bridge)—a mythical bridge said to have been built by Lord Rama’s army to reach Lanka. With the sea on both sides of the narrow stretch of land, it offers one of the most surreal and scenic views in South India.
